If you or anyone inside your family has had reading issues before, you’ll be giving your kids an excellent head start in case you give them some elementary reading skills before they start school. It could be the excess boost they want so they don’t get behind, even when they process information differently from other kids.

And when you own an extremely intelligent kid, they’ll lap up any reading skills you can provide them with annually, or perhaps two years before each goes to college.

Understanding reading basics also give children extraordinary confidence too along with the feeling that learning is not hard. With luck that early confidence may stick with them during their school life.

The earlier children read fluently, the greater. It’s like learning to ride a motorcycle. Once they’ve mastered it, they realise just how much fun reading can be.

The quicker a youngster learns to see easily, the earlier they can start enjoying books and also researching the content inside books and writing their unique material.

There is absolutely no one way to learn to read. Virtually all youngsters are trained to read by learning what letters and mixtures of letters appear to be, and the way to put them together – this is what’s called ‘phonics’. Children also learn how to recognise words they’ve often seen before. This is known as ‘word recognition’. The 2 processes aren’t always separable.

Each child works out that c-a-t is pronounced cat, they are going to probably recognise ‘cat’ the very next time, even if it’s within a large word like catalyst. Plus they might recognise mat and fat without prompting. Plain english would be best learnt ‘whole’ by sight alone. Common words like ‘said’ and ‘though’ and ‘through’ don’t’ follow simple sound patterns simply repetition may help here. The biggest thing to recollect is always that these aren’t the one ways we learn how to read.
